Hi world, how is your day? You have known one of the greatest programs on SMA N 1 Klaten is an Immersion program. For you people who don’t know what immersion program is, let me tell you. Immersion program is policy made by Central Java government, where English is a medium instruction for 7 subjects on the first grade and 5 subjects on second grade. The 7 subjects are math, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, history and geography. The 5 subjects are math, history and physics, chemistry, and biology for science program or economics and geography for social program.
The immersion class of SMA N 1 Klaten started two years ago. So far, there are only two classes the first and the second grade of science immersion program. Nowadays, there are 27 students in class. The classes are small to make either students or teacher could focus on the learning activity.
This class is excellent for me. The boys and the girls are smart, talented, creative and fun. For example English Nite that is a part of the Immersion programs. It’s a kind of show that all of us must perform drama, dance, song, poetry in front of their parents and teachers. All the Immersion student’s performances are presented in English. The show was going great and make our name becomes more popular. And then for the 50th Celebration of SMA N 1 Klaten, our class promotes a specific and great theme that is, “When should you be aware?” .That’s ours. Our motto could be combined by many things. For example, “When should you be aware that global warming has threatened us?” or “When should you be aware that if education is a good investment for people?” It’s a good tag line, isn’t it? Yeah smart brains if gathered together will produce many crazy good ideas. How could I deny it, when my friend Mega is smart on biology, Haryo is good in KIR, Abidah and I are great on debate, Dewa is rocks on computer things, Daniel is good on music, Chandra who is the next star basketball player and then they sit and talk together. Just countdown till the dynamite blows our mind. And with these students and our chemistry teacher we won the Immersion Class Competition for Teacher as Juara Harapan III few months ago. Good for our beginning. .
Just like a wise man said, that everything in this world needs a process. Don’t even think that this program will run smoothly just like a silk, there is a time we have to face a problem that is difficult to solve. For example, as a new program the school only chose the best teachers of each subject and then they are trained to know English well. Because some of them have been old, they are hard to speak and remember the English even they have been given an English course, extra classes and literatures in English. For they who aren’t brave enough, they still teach with Indonesian or for they who don’t know word ‘shame’ in their dictionary, they will try to teach with English that for me it doesn’t sound English. My friend said, that is an ‘other planet language’ or a Kanye West cd’s that has broken. That’s our jokes. Just kidding. But we are not kidding to solve the problem. We keep trying to increase the quality of this program. We, teachers and students, try to give the best in order to make this program succeed. After thinking, searching and discussing, we could find the answer, “Language is a habit.” The more often we use, the more fluently we speak. Simple. We practice our English anytime, anyplace. If the teachers are afraid, the students will be active to force the teacher and correct the mistakes, if something wrong have happened. We have surprised with the result that we got. You will be surprised, if you try it.
